Symposium Plus

Philip Glass in Rehearsal & Concert

For those who are attending OBFCS 2018 (June 28 through July 9, 2018), we are pleased to offer a special four-day session: “Symposium Plus” featuring Philip Glass in rehearsal and concert, which immediately follows the symposium on July 9th through July 12th.

The components of “Symposium Plus” are as follows:

  • A session with Philip Glass, in which the composer will discuss his music with symposium participants;
  • Special entry to rehearsals of music by Philip Glass featuring pieces that will be performed in a chamber concert and in an orchestral concert (Piano Concerto No. 3 for piano and strings)—the composer will attend rehearsals on July 11 and 12;
  • Listening and discussion sessions about the music of Philip Glass, which will focus on repertoire being performed at the festival, as well as other works selected by the participants in “Symposium Plus.” [The composer will not be present for this component.]
  • Tickets for the two concerts of music by Philip Glass (presented by the Oregon Bach Festival) will be available for purchase by participants in “Symposium Plus.” Please note that only a limited number of tickets are available for these events, and thus, early purchase is strongly recommended.

All symposium participants are automatically accepted into this four-day session, when they sign up for it in the online application form. If you are a full participant or full-session auditor in the symposium, and if you are interested in this option, then please be sure to fill out the “Symposium Plus” section in the online application form, which can be accessed through the “How to Applypage.

Tickets for the two Glass concerts (July 11 & 12) must be  purchased independently on the Oregon Bach Festival website.

PLEASE NOTE: Only twenty participants living in the Kalapuya Illihi Hall will have the opportunity to continue occupancy during July 9-12 based on those who apply first for this option; all other participants in Kalapuya Illihi Hall who sign up for “Symposium Plus,” will need to find their own off-campus housing for July 9-12. Please see “Other Housing Possibilities” on the Tuition and Expenses page for additional housing suggestions, as needed.
